Hi, Ken,
I posted an enquiry in your old blog, and just found out that u have a new website.

BTW, I saw your schedule at July as Provence of France, Moscow, Santorini.

May I know when u will be at France (what period of date) ? I would like to know if i can catch up. Else, if u will back to London UK at mid-July ?

And most importantly, how much would that cost for pre-wedding ? And any package price?
Thx for your information in advance.

Kristy & Martin – Pre-wedding shoot in Paris

I sometimes hear my clients who says Paris is not unique for photo shoots anymore.  However, I love it even though I have been here for more than 30 times.  Paris, although being one of the most romantic cities in the world, it has also been said to be dirty, and the Parisians arrogant.  For me, every city has its own culture and to some, the Parisians may be arrogant, but to others it is a sign of confidence and their ‘way of communication’.

What I like about French people is that they would tell you immediately if something is not of their liking. They are straight-forward, direct and expressive. By looking at their architecture throughout the whole city, there is no question why they like to use art to express their emotions:)  I always tell my clients that it is not about the place we shoot or where we shoot. It is about how you enjoy the shooting process.  Never think about the final outcome during the photo-shoot.  Let yourself go, relax your mind and enjoy every minute of it. You will then get lots of surprises from your photographer.

When my clients fly all the way from Asia for pre-wedding shoot in Paris, of course, they always hope for the best weather.  However, it wasn’t the case this time.  Here we came to Paris, and started the shoot under the heavy rain; but it did not bother this happy couple.  Martin and I had to go to buy an umbrella to continue shooting. Then, we moved on to a coffee shop for a hot drink, and did some more shooting.  The sun came out for a while until we headed up to Montmartre.  Shooting outdoor with unpredictable weather was a big challenge for me on the day.  This is because I have to adapt to the weather and different lighting conditions.  I love challenges though:)Without challenges, we wouldn’t push ourselves for better work!

Overall, I have lots of favourites of the day:)  Below is one of the photographs which I like the most.  I always try to make sure that every couple walks away with a photo that represents both of them. A photo that last forever says a thousands words.

Looking good Ken! Cant wait to see some more!

Some of my recent favourites Pre-wedding and Wedding photographs

Due to constantly traveling and workloads, it has been almost two months since I updated my blog:(.  Sorry for keeping you guys waiting and hopefully you are as hungry as ever…

Wedding at Slaley Hall – Vanessa & Koon Wah

Between July and August, we have been away for wedding assignments in Provence, Prague, Lake District, Edinburgh, Venice, Florence, Paris and London. Therefore, we only had limited access of internet. We are sorry for the delay in responding to all our customers.:(

This wedding assignment has taken me back to Newcastle for 2 days. Vanessa & Wah decided to have their wedding in 2 separate days. The first day is Chinese style of wedding and the second day is more the western style of wedding. After Wah and his ushers were humiliated by the bridesmaids from the door games. It came to the Chinese ceremony at Vanessa’s home. One of the most touching moment happened during the Chinese tea ceremony was Vanessa’s mum who cried in tears when Vanessa poured tea to her. After that she held Vanessa’s hand tight and hand it over to Wah. She said “I now give my daughter to you and please take good care of her for the rest of her life”. A cup of Chinese tea means a lot. It is a significant moment at the Chinese wedding. This phenomenon reflects Chinese family values. For this occasion, drinking the tea symbolized acceptance into the family.

We then traveled to Wah’s home. I just love his home a lot as soon as I arrived. It is a very special take away where Wah grow up. With all the photos hanging inside the house, it is full of love in the house. I love the settings and the atmosphere which gave me plenty of opportunity to take photos. On the 2nd day, it is totally a different settings and atmosphere. It all happened at the same place. It was more intimate and mainly the celebration with families and close friends. Vanessa/Wah, thanks so much for putting me on one of the proper table during the wedding breakfast. It was pity I didn’t have time to sit with your wedding guests. However, I decided to work on the wedding day slideshow which was more exciting option for me:). Not to mention the sincerity ,generosity and great help of both of their parents, Graeme(the best man), Amy and Lilian(bridesmaids) and Steven/Lisa. You all have made me feel warm and I felt everything at ease on the day.

Below is the slideshow prepared on the day.

Wedding at the Eastnor Castle – Janet & Ernest

Wedding ceremony: Great Malvern Priory

Wedding venue: Eastnor Castle

Is it necessary for a professional wedding photographer to make a visit to see the wedding venue before hand?

When it comes to a wedding i.e Eastnor Castle which is 256 miles from Newcastle (where we are based), I prefer to arrive at least a day early.  So that, I could make a visit to look around the place and to prepare lighting setup, test on locations.  Having said that, I wasn’t able to see any venues at all i.e Malvern Priory church, Eastnor Castle.  Therefore, I was a little bit worried at one time because I didn’t know how dark it is inside the castle, what are the rooms I could /allow to take photographs inside? Any restrictions? Will I allow to take any photographs during the church ceremony? What about the wedding coordinator at the Castle? Is he/she going to be helpful on the day? All these ? marks came in my mind. But then again I thought I was there to capture the lovely couple’s big day. It is always the wedding people who come first and the moments.  So, I told myself “Just enjoy it and follow the flow”:)

Janet & Ernest have been planning this wedding almost one and half years ago. Having heard what they prepared for their wedding, I have been eagerly waiting for this day to come for a long long time.  The first time to have the Chinese banquet inside the Castle and the last time which the castle allowed the Chinese Sky Lanterns to be released.  After seeing all these, I got to be honest this is one of the best wedding I have covered so far for this year.  I have done many castle’s wedding in the past i.e. Alnwick Castle, Dundas Castle, Wedderburn castle.  The Eastnor castle is one of the best venue I have been so far.

Apart from the wedding items, from my personal point of view, it has everything which weddings should have. For me, Family, Friendship and Love. A life without love is like a year without a summer.  Everyone was so happy and helpful.  There were moments which I  was deeply touched i.e the singing from the church, the speeches given by Eric and Edwin, the Chinese tea ceremony, the speech given by Ernest to Janet (“Trust” at the Pitch Black Restaurant, London).  On the day itself, I felt like I was having many assistants to help me doing the job right.  The wedding forecast mentioned that it was going to rain at some points on the day. Janet, Ernest and I were a bit worried when we were on the way to change to the horse carriage. As soon as we arrived, the rain stopped. Surely, it was meant to be.  I believe God helps.  It was such a perfect day !
